  • The Coastal Communities Museum does not hold a collection and does not have room to store items donated. All items and archive material are held by East Lothian Council Museum Services where they can be conserved in the appropriate environments.
They can, of course be retrieved for relevant displays in the Coastal Communities Museum. If you have any items or photographs or written records that you would like to donate, please contact East Lothian Council Museums Service.

  • Our Volunteers are a friendly, committed team with a wide range of interests. No historic expertise is necessary, just enthusiasm! Each volunteer is given induction training and then further time to settle in to their particular role. The more volunteers we have, the more we can hope to achieve and everyone should enjoy the experience along the way.

Visit our Volunteering Opportunities page to find out more.

  • You can join the Coastal Communities Museum Trust by becoming a Member or a Patron and help to sustain and develop the museum and its activities. Your affiliation to the museum then permits you to receive benefits, such as free access to our Winter Talks programme.

Visit our Patrons page to find out more.

  • Working in partnership with East Lothian Council means that we are not permitted to charge an entry fee to the Museum, so we rely on other sources of income. Visitor and supporter's donations are critical to our ability to stay open and develop our volunteer-run site.

Other sources of revenue such as grants, individual and corporate sponsorship, and legacies are very important for our future development.

  • We welcome children of all ages, from pre-school and primary pupils to secondary school students. We try to make visiting our museum interesting, informative and fun! You can learn more about the local area, delve into history or look at the pictures and objects from bygone days. You can also have fun dressing up and using the old school desks.

School groups are especially welcome, but it is advisable to confirm in advance the date of your visit so that we are prepared for your visit and can offer help on the day.
