Winter Talks – Saving Lives at Sea, Tuesday 20 October 2026

Saving Lives at Sea – Tales from the North Berwick RNLI Lifeboat.

While our doors may be closing for the season, a brand-new chapter begins with our captivating series of Winter Talks, running throughout the colder months. Join us as we launch the series with thrilling tales of courage from North Berwick lifeboat.

The first event takes place on Tuesday 20 October, when North Berwick RNLI Helm Matthew Gibbons will take us behind the scenes of the town’s lifeboat station. Operating a D-class lifeboat from its historic boathouse, the volunteer crew at North Berwick RNLI have a proud record of service. Their dedication has been recognised with three gallantry awards and three gold Blue Peter badges.

Matthew’s talk will explore the history of the station and give an insight into what it means to be a lifeboat crew member today. The evening will feature photographs and footage from the BBC series, offering a glimpse into the work carried out by the crew and the challenges they face at sea.

There will also be an opportunity to put your questions to Matthew, who will be available for a Q&A following the talk.

The evening begins at 7.30pm with the Coastal Communities Museum AGM, followed by the RNLI presentation at 8pm.

The event will be held at St Andrew Blackadder Church, St Andrew Street, North Berwick, EH39 4NU. Entry is free for Coastal Communities Museum Members and Patrons, while Non-Members are welcome with a £5 donation.
